Benelli was the sole supplier of Inertia shotguns until recently, when their patent expired. Two years ago Franchi and Stoeger joined the inertia game, but as subsidiaries of Benelli. The following year Weatherby introduced its inertia gun, the Element Deluxe at a MSRP of $1,099. And finally this year, it’s Stevens turn, releasing their first semi auto shotgun, the inertia driven S1200 at a low MSRP of $573.

To start, the Stevens S1200 inertia driven 12 gauge model will be offered in five different configurations. It weighs in at 6.6 pounds, is chambered for 3″ shells with a 5 + 1 capacity, a choice of 26″ or 28″ barrels, and a set of five mobilchoke Beretta choke tubes. The choke set includes cylinder, improved cylinder, modified, improved modified and full choke options. Other options are black synthetic, walnut and two Mossy Oak camouflage patterns shadow grass and bottomlands. At the moment, 12 Gauge is the only caliber being offered.

For the official opening day of the Texas dove hunting season I was lucky enough try one of the black synthetic S1200’s. This shotgun was a pleasure to shoot with it’s smooth action, slim profile, and very fast shooting, which helped me reach my limits very quickly every day. Future hunts are already planned for pheasant, quail, ducks, geese, and turkeys after the season I’ll give a long term update review, but so far its be a great time shooting this shotgun. The first hunt video is below.
